Golden Hind Millinery is a custom historical reproduction clothing business based in Williamsburg, Virginia, practicing the trades of tailoring, mantua-making, and millinery found in the 18th and early 19th centuries. We proudly offer a wide range of garments including frock coats, breeches, waistcoats, shirts, gaitor trousers, shifts, stays, gowns, jackets, riding habits, embroidered goods, hats, mitts, gloves, fans, and a sundry of others.
Our goal is to create an expertly researched period accurate garments, while still attending to the comfort and price desired by the client. Measuring, draping, and patterning are done in the same manner as would have been found more than two-hundred years ago. Each garment is custom fit to the person, necessitating their own personal pattern rather than applying a general size. Construction can also be done completely by hand to emulate extant garments or in a more efficient modern style with machine work. This wide variety of sewing options allows us to fill requests for other time periods, as well as period-influenced and modern garments.
